Kathleen
Hi all. My name is Kathleen Cole and I am a first-year MFA student in the Nonfiction Writing Program.
I am originally from South Carolina. I earned my BA in English from the University of Chicago in 2017. I primarily work in memoir, in which I aim to pull away the stigma surrounding taboo behaviors and observe the human characteristics which coalesce to produce them, using my own life as a sort of case study. Essentially, I want to transform what could be a series of ugly confessions into a nuanced piece of art.
I am in my second semester of teaching Interpretation of Literature, currently with a theme of memoir/autobiographical novels and their search for meaning and selfhood outside of a constrictive home environment.
I also enjoy knitting while watching documentaries about plane crashes (a subject I hope to write about) and occasionally cooking, but I spend most of my time reading and am always looking for book recommendations.
